MUMMY in use

Since the MUMMY system is a generic platform to support knowledge acquisition and retrieval in mobile business processes, potential MUMMY applications may therefore serve in a multitude of different business areas as a mobile knowledge assistant. In this section shall be depicted some possible ways to use MUMMY or its components and the main use as addressed in detail within the project: mobile support for Facility Management.


. Mobile support for Facility Management

To help mobile workers in Facility Management do their jobs efficiently, MUMMY provides context-aware authoring and retrieval: It exploits the user’s context in order to filter information, which is of special interest in the specific situation. But mobile workers often deal with collecting new info items, too. In this case, mummy bases its solutions on natural forms of input, such as recording oral notes, drawing sketches, or shooting photos. To bring structure into the loose bunch of unstructured files being generated this way, mummy uses snapshots of user context as metadata to correlate input with locations, people, projects, tasks, etc. Additionally, the new multimedia recordings can be attached as annotations to existing multimedia basis documents, such as videos with predefined hotspots, SVG drawings, maps, and plans.

. Trade fair information system

Visitors of a trade fair can plan their schedule and appointments with GRENOBLE. MUMMY helps to guide the visitor and provides location-depended exhibitor information. Based on a location tree and related maps, special events, locations and points of interest are highlighted. Information the user collects himself, as for example notes or pictures, is gathered by MUMMY and gets automatically interrelated with the visited exhibitor for instance. After the visit GRENOBLE can provide reports concerning visited enterprises, related information and personal notes.

. Mobile Health Care support

MUMMY system can be used by companies for the provisioning of telemedicine service in order to provide remote medical help from nursing personnel and doctors to patients in distant locations. SVG collaboration can provide a very effective and intuitive way of working on x-rays pictures or other medical exams (MRI, Arteriography, Ultrasound). The doctor in the HQ will not only be informed at once but he can interact online on the image and may ask for more info from the local physician. All the files concerning the patient will not be lost or distributed across different hospitals but will be gathered in a central DB consisting a very detailed and thorough medical history.

Video-based E-learning, Analysis and Documentation

The HYPERVIDEO component can be used to support collaborative e-learning, video analysis and -documentation. A group of persons can interact remotely with interactive videos. These contain besides their obvious content clickable regions, which refer to more detailed information. The group can add further elements in the process of learning, can attach as well public visible questions and can track the history of discussion.
