Context sensitiveness, Semantic Web Approaches & Knowledge Management.

The WP belongs to the R&D phase of the project. The objective of this workpackage is twofold. At first, a detailed understanding of how context sensitive applications can improve the overall human computer interaction must be elaborated. This goes hand-in-hand with in-depth discussions of the possibilities of knowledge management systems with a special focus on mobility and the influence of user context. Second, the semantic Web approach must be captured and researched. Here, the goal is to derive a metadata description for the information and services available through the MUMMY portal. The work carried out in this WP starts with the research of the state of the art in context-aware applications and in knowledge management systems. The metadata needed for the automatic discovery of information and services will be described and the associated ontology modelled. The relevance of user context information will be described and modelled, as well as manifested, in examples. One part of the user context consists of the current location of the user; others consist of environmental or user-specific information. The location can be determined using different sensor technologies, as well as information from external sources. Likewise, the overall working situation can be estimated using different sources of information. Privacy concerns will be satisfied all through a graphical editing and monitoring tool.
